Somewhere, Robert Asprin is thinking of a character, April Phule -- 4/01/2008 10:35:00 PM

... though honestly, I never got into that particular series of his. Which reminds me, I don't own any of the Myth books right now...

I'm glad people enjoyed the LOLgeeks. They were fun to do, even if some of them are decidedly non-canon (like, honestly, I'm going on record as saying that I doubt Naomi's callous enough to send someone an empty box of cookies)

I'm trying to get some information on the con front... but I do have my sights set on one. More details as they come; watch this space here!

I've been getting excited about cons, in part to listening to the Webcomics Weekly podcasts. Between the podcasts and the accompanying forum, I've been getting a few ideas about what to bring and do at a con.

Plus - unrelated to cons - I got the best tip ever from the WW podcast. I own a Wacom tablet, but I've never liked trying to draw or ink with it. It didn't feel right to my hands, it was hard trying to control it, etc. And this is a cheap tablet (USB Graphire2, which gives you an idea as to how long I've had this thing), so upgrading to another tablet when I didn't like using the cheap one seemed a little... odd. The tip? Put a piece of paper on your tablet, then use the stylus on that. ZOMG! My hand doesn't stick to the tablet anymore! I feel I have more control over it! This is awesome! I don't think I'll be moving to all-digital drawing or inking any time soon, but it's nice to have a better option now.

Quality, not quantity -- 3/17/2008 09:45:00 PM

To show how counterculture I am, I'm writing a news item on St. Patrick's Day! At night! Ha!

I feel like a jackass for not writing anything earlier in this space, but, eh, life gets away from you. A few things while I'm thinking about them:

- it's occurred to me that con season is coming up, and in the next month or two at work, the "vacation time" schedule will be going up. At the same time, I'm thinking "Man, wouldn't it be fun to go to a con?" So: who wants to go to a con? A specific con? What'd be a good con? I'm up for it, within reason :)

- I have a coda to the whole Ace Attorney plushie story (in no small part due to the fact I've bought and completed the fourth game...) Not long after I wrote my post two months ago, I got a care package in the mail. See, this is why talking to a guy at Capcom works! That's a plushie, a stylus(! now I have two of them), a pig-watermelon thing from something called Monster Hunter, and two sheets of Zack and Wiki STICKERS!! I haven't used them yet, but I'm thinking of one use for them: Nothing says "badass" like a Guitar Hero black Kramer replica decked out in studs, flames, tigers, biohazard symbols and a cute little golden bell monkey. Badass.

And yeah, it is small. It's the principle of the thing, darnit! And I'm thinking of posing it on my soon-to-be-arriving Jinxlet. Nevertheless, I am mollified.

- I feel like a cad because I should have written in this spot two weeks ago about Gary Gygax. I'm aware of the many tributes to Mr. Gygax that week (my favorite, of course, being the one from Order of the Stick), so what's one more, fashionably late? Actually, it's not a lot to say, but here it is: Because of Mr. Gygax, a whole new type of game was introduced to the world, influencing thousands upon thousands of people. D&D was at the right place at the right time; it's entirely possible the concept introduced at a different time just wouldn't have taken off. You see the effects today: a whole industry spawned from the concept, video games like Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft, and the multitudes of people creating stories and comics.

To you, Mr. Gygax. May the dice always roll in your favour.

- Finally, how's it going? How am I doing? Drop me a line! I'm trying to get back into the groove of responding to people, so give me a few things to say! You can also reach me through AIM (and a few other IM clients, though I don't usually give those out). Liz wants to chat with YOU!

State of the looney bin -- 1/27/2008 10:01:00 PM

Hi! Welcome to 2008 a month late! I'm allowed, honest!

I'm sure there's a bit of wonderment as to what the heck's going on around here, so let me give a rundown:

Me: I've been enjoying having some time to myself. I think I really needed the chance to unwind after what amounted to an iron man schedule for the past few years, and to think about what I'm trying to accomplish and where I'm going from here. That's a good thing, folks. I have a feeling I'll be taking more frequent breaks as time goes on, but that has to do with my employment status more than anything else.
I'm now officially a thirty-something, as of the 6th. It's... ok, I guess. Nothing different from what I can tell. I'm going to miss my 20s, they were good to me.

My husband: Snores.

The comic: Is not dead. I'm not done with it, not by a longshot. We're slowly getting there, but there are still some things I want to resolve. Ha ha. Of course, I don't think I have to tell you the "not dead" bit, however. Heh. Haha. Muahahahaha.

The site: Might get a few touch-ups. One thing I've added is a RSS feed. It's a hand-rolled deal that shows you the last few comics. I tried integrating it with the Blogger news feed, but Blogger is kind of goofy that way. Oh, yes, I want my last 25 blog entries in my RSS feed, please! In any case, if you want to see if there's a recent comic, it's a good place to start. I'll try to add more stuff to the feed too.
And no, I'm not converting to ComicPress any time soon. As cool as it is, I don't see a reason to do so at the moment.

The game: Where "game" means "Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations," as mentioned earlier in the space. I loved it. Fourth game coming out next month. Don't think I'll order it through Capcom.

The plushie: Still waiting.

The email: Oh dear God, please save me from all these annoying spams about multi-inch phalluses.
